The Cross Foreshadowed in the OT

The death of Jesus Christ fulfils OT predictions and was clearly anticipated in his teaching.

Psalm 22:1

1My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?

Why are You so far from helping Me,

And from the words of My groaning?

Genesis 3:15

15And I will put enmity

Between you and the woman,

And between your seed and her Seed;

He shall bruise your head,

And you shall bruise His heel.”

Psalm 22:6-7, 16:18; 31:5, 69:21

22:7All those who see Me ridicule Me;

They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

22:16 For dogs have surrounded Me;

The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.

They pierced My hands and My feet;

17I can count all My bones.

They look and stare at Me.

18They divide My garments among them,

And for My clothing they cast lots.

31:5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit;

You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.

69:21 They also gave me gall for my food,

And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

Isaiah 52:12-13

12 For you shall not go out with haste,

Nor go by flight;

For the Lord will go before you,

And the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

13 Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently;

He shall be exalted and extolled and be very high.

Zechariah 12:10: 13:7

10 “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

13:7 “Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd,

Against the Man who is My Companion,”

Says the Lord of hosts.

“Strike the Shepherd,

And the sheep will be scattered;

Then I will turn My hand against the little ones.

After speaking of the universal condemnation deserved by sinners, Paul wrote of Jesus’ blood being set forth as a propitiation for sin so that God might remain just in His punishment of sin while justifying those who have faith in Jesus (Rom. 3:2-26). Paul anchors the assurance of God’s people that they will not face God’s wrath in the fact that God “did not even spare His own Son, but offered Him up for us all” (Rom. 8:31-34 HCSB).

God is testing us every day and has given us the right to make our own choices. Do you know which ones are the right choices in Gods mind?

Fear God, love God, honor God, and trust God with all your heart, mind and soul and you will receive and experience the joy of the promises of God’s blessings in His time.
